works in an exhibition sponsored by the Arts and Crafts council.
I definitely agree that anybody who sees them cannot help but think
that they should be displayed!

At the moment I have written 34 of the chapters, and I have 25 more
to complete. My other duties mean that I can write only one chapter
per week; therefore I expect to finish the text of the book in
25 weeks (i.e., in the middle of the summer). This has taken longer
than I expected, but I do want the writing in the book to match
the high standard of the artwork.

As a result, I probably won't have things ready to be exhibited
until September or so, when I definitely plan to set something up
around here. Then I could send them to Norway, since I know that
the ``cultural season'' in Oslo happens mostly in the winter.

I think about 30 of the illustrations will
prove to be hangable as ordinary drawings or paintings, while the
other 30 involve overlays or other things (for the printer); these
latter are also interesting to look at, although they don't always
show the final colors. As a result, I think the show will have
a lot of desirable variety.

The big difficulty, of course, is to figure out suitable framing.
And it also takes a lot of time for somebody to hang the show.
A less serious problem, but one that has to be considered, is the
expense of shipping and insurance. I have no experience in things
like this, but I fear it could become expensive.

Therefore I will be very grateful to you if you can make some
inquiries about what sort of financial support is available for
such an exhibition, and what sort of cooperation will be required
from me if this wonderful thing actually happens!

I will have some unbound copies printed, showing only the artwork,
and these could be exhibited rather easily. However, the originals will be
a great deal more interesting. For example, Derick Pao in Hong Kong
has done his illustration by embossing calligraphy on handmade paper,
then photographing the result with high-contrast lighting. The
illustration will look gorgeous, but I have also his embossed original
and it is really something to see.
